Furan resin

Self-hardening furan resin for casting refers to a thermosetting resin—typically a pale yellow to brownish, transparent or semi-transparent, uniformly colored liquid—made by modifying furfuryl alcohol or phenol with urea and various aldehydes, which hardens at room temperature via acid catalysis and contains furan rings in its molecular structure.

Product Introduction

Product Introduction
Self-hardening furan resin for casting refers to a thermosetting resin—typically a pale yellow to brownish, transparent or semi-transparent, homogeneous liquid—that hardens at room temperature via acid catalysis when mixed with molding sand (or core material), and contains furan rings in its structure. It is derived from modified furfuryl alcohol or phenol, combined with urea and various aldehydes.

Note: Strength test conditions: Sand used was roughly standard sand, with a resin addition of 1%, at a temperature of 18–22°C and humidity levels between 30% and 50%.
Product Description
  1. Resin-sand mix ratio: Sand : Resin (including silane) : Curing agent = 100 : (1.0–1.5) : (0.3–1.0)
  2. Mixing method: First, add the hardener to the sand and mix thoroughly for 30–60 seconds. Then, incorporate the resin and mix again for another 30–60 seconds. Once mixed, immediately proceed with molding and core-making. Prolonged mixing or extended storage is strictly prohibited, as it may lead to loss of effectiveness.

Important Notes
  1. Direct mixing of resin with the hardener is strictly prohibited, as it could lead to accidents such as explosions due to the rapid reaction.
  2. Do not mix the sand for an extended period, as this will exceed its usable time and reduce its strength.
  3. The hardener is an acidic substance—avoid getting it on your skin. If it does splash onto your skin, rinse immediately with plenty of water. In case of severe contact, seek medical attention at a hospital.
  4. Do not store the resin in direct sunlight or near heat sources, as this will shorten its shelf life.
